Learn To Play Hockey (Ages 3-16) 

Learn to Play Hockey (Ages 3–16)* Beginning hockey lessons are for youth with previous skating experience who are learning to play hockey for the first time. Players will learn puck handling, shooting skills, and game fundamentals. Participants are expected to provide their own helmet and stick. However, we do have equipment to rent for an additional fee. (CM) *Participants must have basic skating skills and will be grouped by experience level.

River Otters (Ages 7-14)

The River Otters is a youth recreational hockey team that is geared towards beginners and intermediate players, with a focus on learning to play this great sport and having fun. The league includes team practices and games. Each team will need between 12-15 participants to make up the team. Equipment is available for players on a first come first serve basis. There will be a skill evaluation night to assess skill levels on 12/7 & 12/9. Players must know how to skate comfortably. (PK)

In partnership with The Rockford IceHogs, the Belvidere Park District is proud to offer a newly created Youth Hockey   Scholarship. It is designed to give kids the opportunity to be involved with the sport of youth hockey. This scholarship    covers all hockey equipment for the winner as well as the   program fee for the River Otters youth hockey program.

Looking for a fun and exciting game but can’t skate? Try Broomball! Broomball is similar to hockey, played on ice with teams of six on six, but players wear rubbersoled shoes and helmets and use “brooms” and a ball instead of sticks and a puck. Whether you are young or old, broomball will sweep you away. League will begin in January and run through the beginning of March. (PK)
