Native American Indian Sculptures Return to Belvidere Park
November 12, 2019
The Belvidere Township Park District is proud to announce the re-introduction of the Native American Indian sculptures, Chaos in Camp, by Belvidere resident John Critchfield. On Monday, November 11, 2019 a dedication of the sculptures took place near the Belvidere Park District Administration Building at 1006 West Lincoln Avenue.
After several years in storage, park staff and Michael Bihlmaier, Sr., an accomplished woodcarver from Union, IL, have restored all the original pieces so they can be placed back on display for all to enjoy. Mr. Bihlmaier Sr. also carved a replacement for one of the sculptures damaged beyond repair when the Mill Race flooded prior to them being removed from their original location on the shore of the Mill Race.
The original design of the sculptures was unique, but very maintenance intensive. The new location is much more visible and accessible to the public.
